Branding the St. Francis Xavier Haitian Orphanage

mwyse At ADG, we are always eager to take on new and interesting projects. We recently took on one such project that also enabled us to support an organization doing extraordinary work in a community facing great hardships.

Late this summer, our Communications & Design team was tasked by a fledgling foundation – the Saint Francis Xavier Haitian Orphanage Foundation – to help develop a logo that spoke to their mission and vision.

Established locally by members of Siena College and the St Pius X Parish community, the Foundation's sole purpose is to provide financial support for the Saint Francis Xavier Orphanage in Petite Riviere de Artibonite, Haiti.

Sadly, almost two-years later, Haiti is still struggling to recover from the effects of the devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010. Tens of thousands of Haitian children remain homeless and desperately in need of food, shelter and medical attention. Opening an orphanage in Petite Riveiere de Artibonite had been the long-time dream of Esperandieu Cenat, a native Haitian who spent time post-earthquake in Loudonville, New York, hosted by members of the Siena and St. Pius Community. After the earthquake, the need for the orphanage became even more desperate, as did the need for funding to get the orphanage up and running.

SFX Haiti LogoWith the goal of educating the community about the Foundation and helping raise money to sfxhaiti-logo full-color-300x247 support the orphanage's opening in mind, our team set out to develop a logo that reflected the hope and support the Foundation will provide to countless orphaned Haitian children.

Our final design incorporated the core mission and values of the Foundation:

-We choose a vibrant color palette of green, orange, magenta and purple to reflect the colorful, exuberant culture of the Haitian people.

-Three playful figures with arms outstretched were chosen as representations of the Haitian children.

-Finally, a brush-stroke roofline over the three figures symbolizes the physical protection and emotional support the orphanage will provide.

The end result is a hopeful, joyful design that strongly brands the Saint Francis Xavier Haitian Orphanage Foundation.

An informational 8-page newsletter about the Foundation, the orphanage and the children it would help soon followed – all in preparation for a fundraising campaign to help provide Esperandieu with startup costs for the orphanage. The community responded, helping the Saint Francis Xavier Haitian Orphanage Foundation far surpass their initial fundraising goals.

dsci0203-300x225 SFX orphanage- children and logoWe are thrilled to report that Esperandieu was able to open the Saint Francis Xavier Orphanage in this fall. The newly-opened Orphanage provides food, shelter, education and healthcare to eight of the town's needy children. And the logo designed by our ADG Communications & Design team now graces the front of the St. Francis Xavier Haitian Orphanage in Petite Riviere de Artibonite, Haiti – painted there by a local Haitian artist.
